Our First Project

Custom Watch Box Night Stand

Dating back to March of 2020 not much was going on for Rogan and I. I had just returned from my shortened study abroad, school had just been put completely online for Rogan, and we were both stuck at my parent’s house quarantining. For the first few weeks it was great! We were so excited to see each other after months apart, but after about 3 weeks complete boredom had sunk in. If you know Rogan and me, that doesn’t sit well with us.

One morning Rogan came out to the kitchen and told me he wanted to build something to display all of his watches in. I proceeded to laugh, because neither of us had any experience using a drill, let alone reading blue prints. That didn’t stop him pestering me about building something, so we got to it. We began an immense amount of research on what to build, which blue prints to use, what materials were best, etc. I recommend doing more research than you think if you want to get into wood working and you have no experience with it. We did what we thought was more than enough research to get us started, and each day we went to work on the night stand set we ran into more questions that needed more research. Wood working is a skill I truly believe anyone can do, but just like any other skill it takes time, practice, and extensive knowledge to become truly great at it. Rogan and I are still learning everyday.

After we had found the exact blueprints (find them and other details about the project under Custom Built) we went straight to what is now our favorite store… Lowes! With this being our first project, and having no tools, we spent a lot of money up front, but we have saved so much in the long run by investing in our tools. We got everything on the list and still managed to go back to Lowe’s 12 more times during the duration of the project. It’s not a true project if you don’t go back more than 3 times am I right?

About a month and a half later our matching night stand set was complete, and our excitement to do more only grew. So far we have completed 13 projects in 4 months! All of our past and future projects will be displayed on our blog with all of our project details included. We hope to bring inspiration and creativity to others to help create their dream pieces for their home.
